Joachim Herzner has Parrot that say's Heil Hitler 1949
Seek To Break Parrot Of Habit Of ‘Heil Hitler!’ MUNICH, Jan. 29. — (INS) — Munich’s celebrated pro-Nazi parrot which croaks “Heil Hitler” to all visitors was subjected to a treatment of love and laughter today in hopes of breaking its out-of- date habit. Joachim Herzner, caretaker of the Munich zoo who has been a staunch Social Democrat all his life, was mortified when the bird arrived from Hamburg where it had been bought and embarked upon its career as cheerleader for the Fuehrer. His first cure was to laugh right in the creature’s beak every time it uttered the hated name. Then, inasmuch as the bird is a female named Laura, he obtained a mate named Max. The joint love and laughter treatment seems to be succeeding, for every time the male is taken away. Laura cries “Where’s my Max?” and on seeing him cackles out a relieved “Here's your Laura,” Herzner said he was tempted for a while to destroy Laura, but she cost the Bavarian government $40 and parrots are scarce in Germany. Denazification authorities discovered there was no real law covering such cases so endowed Herzner with full responsibility for weaning Laura back to the code of democracy. An acre of ocean water is said by scientists to be able to grow a greater tonnage of vegetation in the course of a year than the most fertile hayfield.
