* * * : Proclamation For Whittington •••'• . ..'•. : ; Day ;' : Whereas, in a recent battle at sea between'the United States Ship Enterprise Enterprise and, a number of Japanese a'ombers the members of an antiaircraft antiaircraft battery on said Enterprise bad been put out of action and said ship was in distress, and Whereas, our fellow townsman, Hubert Whittington, is now in the armed forces of the United States and was serving upon the Enterprise as a printer at the time of said conflict, and, .-•.. Whereas, he, the said Hubert Whittington Whittington and other sailors on said vessel vessel at,said time manned said anti-aircraft anti-aircraft gun under extreme difficulties and great hazards to their own lives and with unusual skill and bravery and brought down several of the attacking attacking bombers and thereby saved their vessel and warship from destruction, destruction, and, Whereas, the said Hubert Whittington Whittington has been cited for bravery in action action and for'his great skill and ability, and his friends and fellow townsmen wish to pay due honor and respect to him for such deeds: NOW, THEREFORE, By Virtue of the Authority Vested in me as County County Judge- of Robertson County, Texas, I hereby declare June 6th, next, same being Saturday of this week, as Hubert Whittington Day throughout Robertson County, and do hereby direct that suitable display be made of the United States Flag throughout the county; and further, further, that at 8;30 p. m. on said date at the court house in the town of Fr,anklin, in said county, a ijroper program be had . in honor of said hero and in recognition of the award which has been made to him by the Government of the United States.
