S. aircraft Lexington (above) as a result of the battle of the Coral sea which prevented the Japs from _ either invading or isolating Australia. The loss was disclosed today in connection with an official review the navy's part in the entire Coral sea campaign, starting May 1 at New Guinea and running May 8 when enemy aircraft inflicted such damage on the Lexington that several hours later she and sank, with a relatively light loss of life.
