Possibly Florence Whitefield in accident
Nearly Fatal Accident. An accident occurred on the Pomona Heights street-car street-car street-car rpad Sunday which came near proving a disaster. During the afternoon, while the car was going along Fifth avenue, near the curve, and the driver had gone back to collect fares from the passengers, Mrs. J. C. Oakes and baby and Mrs. Whitefield, of San Bernardino, attempted to cross the track in a carriage in front of the car. Just as the carriage horse crossed over, the devil seemed to take possession of him and he stopjied, leaving the hind wheels of the buggy on the track and refused to budge. A passen-.'er passen-.'er passen-.'er who was standing on the platform of the car attempted to put on ihe brake, but owing to the down grade and the man's excitement, the speed of the car wan unchecked and went crashing crashing into the carriage, upsetting it and throwing the occupants to the ground. However, all escaped with slight injury. Miss Whitefield suffered a slight sprain of the wrist and Mrs. Oakes was somewhat somewhat bruised about the face.
