Past State Legislator, Brooks, Dies GREEN LAKE - A former Wisconsin lawmaker and Green Lake County sheriff, Halbert W. Brooks, 77, died at 8 p.m. Sunday at Riverdale Manor Home of the Retired. Markesan. Mr. Brooks, son of John R. and fl'c,a Hlfb'e BJks: w,aDLbo in Green Lake Dec. 9, 1885. He married Irene Gilkey, April 16, 1908. He received his education in Green Lake Schools, Ripon Acad emy and Ripon College and was a retired general merchant. Mr. Brooks was a member of Green Lake Masonic Lodge for over 50 years, a state Legislator tor two terms, a. former sheriff and member of the county board of supervisors. He had also been mayor of the Village of Green Lake and was president of the State Checker Association for 30 years. Survivors include his wife at Riverdale Manor, two daughters, Mrs. John Barton, Camas, Wash., and Mrs. Robert Sander, Milwaukee; a son, Alvin, Western Springs, 111.; and seven grandchildren. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Federated Church in Green Lake, the Rev. Marcus Johnson, officiating. Masonic rites will be conducted at the church and graveside.
