NASHVILLE (AP) - Singers Patsy Cline and Jimmy Dean were named queen and king ol country music Saturday climaxing the colorful Country M u s i c Festival here. Pretty Patsy, who gained fame with recordings of "Crazy" and "Heartaches," received the official official title of "Star Performer of the Year" by winning the sweepstakes sweepstakes awards from leading publications publications in the field, Music Reporter, Music Vendor, Cashbox and Billboard. Nineteen months ago Miss Cline was near death following an auto accident. The songs were part of her comeback on crutches months later. Patsy Cline, Jimmy Dean Music Festival Royalty Billboard named Dean its choice for "Country and Western Man of the Year." A native of Plainview, Texas, Dean hit it big with "Big Bad John" issued last spring. record has passed the two million mark in sales. Other recent sue- cesses for the lanky Texan, who started his career playing bars at $5 a night during o?f-duty Air Force hours, include "P.T. 109 and "Cajun Queen."
