DEATH OF DR. LUTHER BUXTON A Veteran Pliyslelnn Who Made HU Mark in Politico. Milwaukee, Wia., Aug. 23, 1897.— Luther Bnxton, one of Milwaukee's' oldest jihysicians and resident, died yesterday yesterday after a prolonged illness, at the age of 75 years. The direct cause of death was cancer, friuu which he had suffered for some time. He had been confined to his bod for the past six weeks. I)r. Buxtou was born in the to«ii of Dauby. Ruthlnd county, Vt., October 12. 1822, and when a "young man, started West, settling in Milwaukee at an early day. He retired from practice many years ngo, and had been living quietly since that time. He" wns a graduate of Albany Medical college and of Castleton college. Vermont. He married Surah Fidelis MeCulloeh, August 14. 1845. In 184H Dr. Buxtou \vus elected member of the Assembly from Erie county. N. Y.. as a Whig. He voted for William H. Kewnrd for United States senator. Twenty years afterwards he was elected member of the-Assembly'from Oshkbsh, Wiiineliago county, Wis.. and wns elected elected superintendent of pnblic schools in Oshkosh in 1800. Ht> was also deputy collector of internal revenue for many years and a prominent* Republican.
