This engine, one of the two largest engaged In passenger service in the world, was brought from Bukersfleld a number of weeks ago, where It was doing service over the heavy mountain grade. Every detail and part of the engine Is being overhauled In the most careful manner. New flues are being applied and other new parts. The several months In which It has been In service has develop its weak spots and these are being strengthened. When the big locomotive Is turned out of the shop it will be in better condition than when the Baldwin Locomotive works delivered It to the Santa Fe. ' Only a few minor repairs have been made to the engine In roundhouses since It went In service, after Its trip across the continent, some months ago. It is expected that the big engine will be ready to be tested out shortly after the first of the month. The mechanics have never previously had an opportunity to work on an engine if this type and much Interest Is being manifested In the work, not only by the gangs assigned to the task, but by other mechanics and officials.
