Barr organized organized t h e Green Sulphur! Church in 1881". Present membership membership is 45. The present edifice edifice was erected in 1880. "Ansted Episcopal Church (The Church of the Redeemer). The lot on which the church building stands was presented to the Episcopal church by the Hawks Nest Coal Co. (English). Credit* for raising the; "money for the building -is largely due M. L. Lacy, D. D, in a building then used as the Summers County court house. Meetings were held in it for a year. "Next, a school house was used.. They used the school house until the Baptists put up their church- building. The Presbyterians c o n t r i b u t e d toward it and worshiped there until 1881 In 1890 the mem- 'bership was .44. "In 1876, the Missionary Baptist Church at Hinton built a'building. On Nov. 4, 1877, the Baptists were organized into a church by Revs. Ellison, Pack, and Sweeney In 1878 the church united with the Hopewell Baptist Baptist Association. Twelve persons constituted the charter membership-In membership-In 1890 the membership "A N S T E D Baptist Church was formed in the Ansted School house, March 22, 1883, by Revs. Matthew Ellison, A. N; Rippetoe, C. E. .Wren and M. Bibb. Rev C E. Wren was first pastor of this church There were 13 charter members. "April 21, 1883, a committee was appointed to select a site for a place of worship. Location was chosen by William Masters and his wife. A building was put up at once. It was dedicated October 24, 1886. "First Baptist church at Ansted was -formed-in 1796. It was composed of members of the Likens, Scaggs, Coleman and Wood families, a group 'squatters', who. were the first settlers of the community where Ansted is. built today. About year 1800, they built a log building and occupied it as house of worship."
