NAACP Elects New Officers The Cumberland branch of the National Association for the Ad- vancement of Colored People has elected'Rev. Samuel M. Carder, as president. Other officers, elected for two- year terms, are: Mrs. Lina Yates, vice president; John Wormack Sr., secretary; Mrs. Romaine Franklin, treasur- er, and John Gordon, chaplain. Committee chairmen named at the meeting include: Membership, Mrs. Opal Jones; education, James Hurt; legisla- tion, John Gordon; housing, Rev. Charles E. Walden. Publicity, Miss Cara Myers; entertainment, Mrs. Mae Wash- ington; veterans affairs, Bruce Gates: labor and industry, John W o r m a c k ; youth work. Annie Flowers: health and wel- fare, Mrs. Lina Yates; finance, Mrs. Romaine Franklin. Plans for opening an extensive membership drive were set in motion at the meeting. The drive will be headed by John Wormack.
