Wednesday, November 27, 1974 Neiv Vienna Mrs. Robert Norman Correspondent 987-2290 Greg Dodd Carrier Sunday The Girls Chorus of the East Clinton Elementary School under thè direction of Mrs. Carl West, presented the special music at the Fairview Friends Church. Those in the chorus: First soprano — Lisa Tolle, Julia Dean, Brenda Conley, Melodie Mahanes, Kim Murphy, Jane Stuber. Kelly Henderson; Second sophrano — Terri Wolfe, Tami Anderson. Janice Hesler, Susan Flint, Jennifer McCain, Kelly Markim, Karen Henderson, Diana Quigley; alto — Cindy Woolum, Karen Grooms, Kath Markim. Jill LaPine, Kim Bickel, Gayle Harden, Terry Pinkerton. Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wolfe were Mr. and Mrs. Bill Wolfe, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Wolfe and daughters. Miss Carol Young, Miss Bonnie Wolfe, Miss Cathy Wolfe. Mr. and Mrs. Sid Clay, minister of the Mt. Olive Church of Christ and children Chris and Alicia were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Tolle and daughters. Nov. 17 the United Methodist Church had the Everymember Canvass Workers dinner immediately following morning worship. Monday A skating party was held at the Rollerhaven in Washington C.H. sponsored by OAPSE. This is the non union personnel of the East Clinton Schools. There was a very good turnout and approximately $125 was taken in. Several cakes had been donated to be used for games. Boy Scout Troop 97 and Webelos participated in the first swim of the school year held at Hermann Court of Wilmington College. This helps the boys in earning water readiness badges. Plans have been made to have Pern Griffith and Tom McDermotto attend a Pack meeting Dec. 5, at the annex of the New Vienna Church of Christ. Purpose of the meeting is to obtain a Cubmaster and get the Cubbing program rolling before the charter expires in January, 1975. If a Cubmaster is not obtained Pack 8 will be disbanded. There are several boys interested in this program and will not be able to advance into Boy Scouts unless necessary requirements are met. Football awards banquet was held at the East Clinton High School. The team ended the season with a 4 and 6 record. Cheerleaders were chosen for basketball season and they are: reserve — Judy DeVoe, Jean Waddell, Judy Curtis, Beth Germann, Beth Woods, Patti Sharp; freshman — Karen Leslie, Brenda and Bonnie Yankey, Cindy Flint, Kathy Bosel, and Jodi Burrows; varsity — Cheri and Cathy McFadden, Becky Cline, Kim Hite, Jan Barton, and Brenda Olds. Tuesday Prayer Breakfast was held at the New Vienna Church of Christ with James Luck, principal of the East Clinton Elementary School as devotional leader. There was 31 person present. Regular monthly meeting of the Volunteer Fire Department was held. Plans were made for their annual Christmas Dinner to be held on December 13. Nominations were opened and the following persons were elected for offices beginning in January, 1975: chief, Jim Curtis, assistant chief. Bill Mahanes; secretary, Tom Hughes, treasurer, Mike Daye, captains: Bob Sonner, Ron Flint, and Wayne Davidson. The Gospel Choral of the United Methodist Church presented special music at the Revival held at the United Methodist Church of Wilmington. The Messengers, a quartet from the United Methodist consisting of Mr. and Mrs. Wendall Mahanes, Mrs. Harold Thornburg, and Keith Rankin, presented special music on Wednesday evening of the revival. The Clothing Cupboard was open for receiving articles in the morning and dispersal during the afternoon. St. Michael’s Catholic Church was in charge this month. Things the cupboard need at this time are boys clothing and warm beddjng. The New Vienna Clothing Cupboard is voluntarily run by a group of different organizations, church, and other leading citizens. It services the East Clinton School District. Committee members are: Mrs. Frank W. Davis, Mrs. Lawrence Terrell, Mrs. A. W. Hause, Mrs. Henry Fisher, Mrs. Henry Webb, Miss Myrtle Smith, Mrs. Martha Woodmansee. Each month a church or organization help take in the clothing for sorting and hanging. It is open the third Tuesday of each month to the public for low income families. Clothes are greatly appreciated especially boys clothing. The Cupboard services 36 families and this is 132 persons. Contributions are from the local Churches, organizations and the United Appeal. Last year bought for all children kindergarten through high school were three new suits of under clothing in August, in October, three new pairs of socks for each child and at Christmas new scarves and gloves. Layettes are made for new babies and new diapers given. Also material for any one taking home economics who can not provide the necessary items is bought. The Junior Girl Scouts met after school at the United Methodist Church and during craft period made Thanksgiving turkeys from pine cones. Plans were completed for the box social being held November 26. Wednesday Brownie Troop 976 met in the school cafeteria under the leadership of Mrs. Daryl Lucas and Mrs. John Hughes. Their craft project for the day was taking i;styrofoam cups making hangers of yarn and filling with bread for the birds. The Girls Ensemble of the Church of Christ met at 7:30 for practice. Their goal of 20 girls was met so plans have been made to take the girls bowling Friday Nov. 29 at 12:30. The girls will meet in the church parking area with their sponsors Mrs. David McCune and Mrs. John Hughes. Thursday Dalton Lodge 527 met and elected officers.
