Statement of Principles: • REVIEW STATE LAND POLICY: "The State of Wisconsin is in possession of vast areas of land in this district. In some of our towns, there is a serious problem bemuse so little of their area is on the tax rolls. I believe the whole policy (if state ownership should be reviewed. Reserving always to the public the right of access to lakes, and reserving; always to the public areas especially suitable for public recreational purposes, I believe that a substantial substantial amount of properly can be restored to tax rolls and improved, adding adding value In our district and 'increasing employment opportunities." • CONSTRUCTIVE LEGISLATION FOR ALL INDUSTRY. "I am familiar with '.he recreation industry of our district and believe it is of the utmost importance to all of Northern Wisconsin. I will work for its encouragement and development. However, I believe that other industry is important, too, to our business men and wage earners, and I will support legislation beneficial beneficial to ALL." • PROVIDE A STATE SOLDIERS' BONUS: "The State Liquor Tax, originally established for Veterans Housing, should be restored. This tax income should be used for Veterans' Housing, as it was originally intended. The continued tax income, and repayments on housing loans, will increase the fund each year. Once the Veterans' IJousing needs are satisfied, a fund sufficient would be immediately available for a Veterans' Bonus payment. The first payments with the available cash would be paid to those Veterans with toe longest service, taking into consideration their service on foreign soil. The remaining veterans would receive their bonus as the cash becomes becomes available, from continued liquor tax payments and repayments on t Veterans Housing mortgages, and, of course, payable to the Veterans on a length-of-service basis, with the Veteran with the greatest service receiving receiving the full bonus first and the Veteran with the last service receiving the bonus last." • INCREASE OLD AGE ASSISTANCE: "We are not being fair with our older residents. I especially object to present statutes requiring these people to surrender their modest life insurance policies. At present, these people must give up their modest insurance if it exceeds S50I) and in return are given a, $300 burial. I think it is only decent and right that this inhumane law should be repealed, and I pledge myself to work for its repeal." • INCREASE STATE AIDS FOR* SCHOOLS AM) HIGHWAYS: "I believe the state must recognize its responsibilities for the education of our youth and for the development of a highway system which the entire state uses. Our district needs increased state aids for these purposes." f STOP THE SALES TAX DRIVE: "I am unalterably opposed to the sales tax ana will vigorously resist efforts to impose such a tax on the people of Wisconsin." t AMENDMENT OF TRUCK LICENSE LAWS; "I believe the present law governing the licensing of (rucks is unfair, especially to the operators of small trucks, and I will work for fair and just revisions." For Experienced Service ELECT EARL NEHLS
