Awards Presented At Del Rio High Awards were prenented at Del Rio High School Wednesday, with department head* giving awards in English, business, band, social studies, science, mathematics, language! and vocational with special awards presented by Principal S.V. Ramon. Mrs. Claire Abbett and Mrs. Hermlnia Vlllarreal were program chairmen for the occasion, which opened with the presentation of colon and salute to the flag by the R.O.T.C. Sgt. Ballard led the pledge of allegiance to the flag of the United States and Principal Ramon welcomed those attending as well as acting as master of ceremony. Vernon Harlan presented English awards as follows: Grace Lee, English II; Veronica Bus, English III; Kristine Kelley, English IV; Kathy Myers, journalism'; Kathv Conn, speech; Lupita Martinez, speech; Hector Barrera, drama; Wright Pressley, drama. Mrs. Wyvonne Rust presented business awards to Linda Robles, shorthand; Mary Ann Smith, Typing I; Maria Elena Floret. Typing II; bookkeeping, Theresa Bus; Elsa Saracho, business education. Band Director Carlos Garcia presented Lino Lopez the senior band award; Mary Ann Smith, the junior and Rudy Coronado, the sophomore award. Mrs. Abbett presented social studies awards to Lawrence Apodaca, American history; Becky Mathre, world history; Armando Gonzalez, world geography; Denis Merat, government and Veronica Bus, sociology. Joey Bolner presented science awards, including the following: To Grace Lee for general physical science; Richard Pifer for Biology I; Kristine Kelley, Biology II; Day Siefken, Chemistry I; Martin Speer, Chemistry II and Martin Speer, Physics I. Mrs. Ray Bishop made the presentations for mathematics, these awards going to Danny Platt, Ruben Gonzalez, Martin Speer and Tad Lynch. Mrs. Herminia Villarreal presented the language awards. Summer Home EC Classes Offered Summer homemaking classes will be offered at Del Rio High School June 4-15. Class offerings will include adult foods, adult handicrafts, adult clothing, sewing for non-credit youth and credit classes for high school youth. Registration will be held June 1 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 12 o'clock noon and 1 and 3 p.m. Teachers will be Mrs. Jackie Cannon, Mrs. Mary Felton, Mrs. Mrs. Irene Lopez, Miss Nancy Ross and Mrs. Susan Senate. Information is avaiable at 775-95611 Extension 384 from 8a.m. to/3 p.m. ClMMs offered on Mondays and ^Wednesday from 9 to 11 a.m. will be adult foods, menu planning and food purchasing to beat the high cost of living; the same hours, adult handicrafts, all types of handcrafted items, knitting, crocheting, embroidery, decoupage, whatever; Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 to 11 a.m., adult clothing in two sections, one for beginners and one for the experienced seamstress; Monday and Wednesdays from 1 to 3 p.m., sewing for non-credit youth 14 years of age or older and who has never taken homemaking before; Tuesday and Thursday, 1 to 3 p.m., sewing for non-credit youth, if the number demands. Every day, from 9 to 11 a.m. and from 1 to 3 p.m., credit classes for high school youth who have taken homemaking previously. The student must attend five consecutive classes and complete a home project. They went to Donald de la Rosa, CVAE; Regina Connell, D.E.; Amalla Marquez, V.O.E.; Norma Fernandez, I.C.T.; Calvin Johnson, photography; Francisco Marin, building trades; Tomas Magdaleno, building trades; David Taylor, building maintenance; Scotty Hinds, electrical trades; Kim Humphrey, printing; Jeff Kemp, auto mechanics; Gary Westbrook, metal trades; Gary VanLandingham. drafting; Charlotte Ciarfeo, Home Economics I; Jo Ann Wright, Home Economics II; Mary Garcia, H.E.C.E.; Hettie Sue Parker, Betty Crocker homemaker contest winner; Norma Ramirez, outstanding senior student in Home Economics. Special awards made by Principal Ramon went to Felix Garcia, best all around boy, appointment to Air Force Academy; best all around girl, state persuasive speaking, Kathy Conn. Good citizenship, Edwin Ramos and Virginia Reyes, 10th grade; Tom Caldwell and Darlene Nell, llth grade; Phillip Sharp and Theresa Bus, 12th grade; extra curricular activities, Dean Paret and Zaundra Best, 10th grade; Keith Stone and Pam Foster, llth grade and Ruben Gonzalez and Evelyn Jones, 12th grade.
