Example of Early Hospitality Cited “When I first settled m Coman- c’m County m 1857 on Mountain Creek there were four families livinp on that creek,” F M Cro^s once wrote. "The families were Jamf’s Cunningham, better known a- Captain Cunningham; Charlie Charlie Campbell, Thomas Dunlap, and Jonathan Watson, all of them as good neighbors as I ever had in my life. ’Campbell and Cunningham each had a small stoc.* of cattle and wnen the new-comers would settle around them, they would so to them and if they wanted cows to milk, would tell them to make themselves cowpens and would pen them all the the cows they needed to milk. When e.ther of these two men killed a beef, i they would .mst send a mvn iaround to all tiie neighbors, telling telling them to come over and get all the beef they wanted. They nevt r asked a cent of pay for it and this was done every two or three days during the summer season.”
