Athens Softball Girls League Starts Play The Girls Softball League got its season rolling with two games played played at the Main Elementary Softball Stadium recently. The league consists consists of girls in the 4th, 5th, and 6th grades. This year 72 girls are assigned assigned to eight teams. In the first game of the season, the Bat Girls upended the Happy Hitters Hitters by the score of 9 to 4. The Bat Girls were led at the plate by Jo Lynn Scaife and Kathy Traver with three hit's and Barbara Harris pounding out two doubles. The Happy Happy Hitters struggled with Maureen Wolf collecting a triple, double and single, also contributing three hits were Connie Yeomans, Ronnie Kay Burnett and Karla Cole. In the second game, the Sluggers outslugged the Bouncing Bats by a close 11 to 10 margin. Karen Nichols and Pat Barton led the Sluggers by each collecting a home run and two other hits, Bonnie Kellogg and Annette Annette Viselli also collected three hits each. For the Bouncing Bats, the leading hitters were Jane Welch and Martha Latini four hits each and Mary Regan, Rhonda Hunsinger, Toni Peterson and Pamela Pises each belting three hits.
