The petition of S. H. Lewis for letters letters of administration on the estate of James W. Carrigan, deceased, was not reached by Judge McNally in Probate court yesterday, owing- to the absence of. certain persons who, it was assumed, desired to be heard, and the matter went over until this morning at 10 o'clock. The petition recites that the valuation of the estate left by decedent : is very small and that it will, perhaps, not exceed $2000. A few years ago Jim Carrigan was regarded as a well-to-do man. He had considerable real estate, for which handsome • offers were rejected and which depreciated as times got hard until he found it ditlcult to raise the money with which to pay the taxes. These reverses made Carrigan gloomy ancl Irascible, and one night in February February last he permitted his temper to overcome him, and in his frenzy assailed assailed his mother. He ran away from his home and sought refuge at a ranch few miles east of the city, where years ago he had made a home for his first wife. There he was found by the detectives and brought to police headquarters, headquarters, where he was served with a warrant charging him assault upon his aged mother. Relatives gathered, and he succeeded in giving bond £or his appearance the following morning at 10 o'clock, The exposure was too much for him, however, and returning to the ranch, he deliberately placed his mouth over the muzzle of a Winchester rifle and blew out his brains.
