About two weeks ago William Milnor, able-bodied seaman oa tin British steamship Daniel, deserted In this port and shipped board tho revenue cutter Galveatou. On Tuesday the Daniel went outaido to finish loading and as sho passed down tho [tfilner, who was standing on tho bridge tho cutter, waved his cap at the passing Captain Kottley of tho Daniel leveled hu glass and recognized Milner at once. Yesterday morning Captain Kottloy came ashore and sworo out a warrant before Commissioner R. S. Byrne charging ono Milner, able-bodied seaman, with desertion from the steamship Daniel. The warrant was placed in the hands of United States Deputy Marshal Wheelan, who wont aboard cutter Galvcston und served it on Milnor. Milnor was at onco surrendered by the in command of the cutter and lodged in to await the pleasure of Captain Kottley. Milner states that he ma not treated aooard the Daniel and that ho wants to remain in tho United and that Im do wjrtod for those two reasons. 'I'hiaii! the first arrest made In this port under the treaty recently concluded botwoon the United States aud Great Britain relative to desertions from merchant ships.
