Chattanooga, May 13. -- News has just reached here of the lynching of Jim Underwood, a negro, at Becatur, Meigs county, Tenn. Underwood was la the county jail charged with carry- lag a pistol. He openly boasted that he had killed two men, and threatened to kill two prominent ellteiiss at tho first opportunity. About 1 a. m. Legg w*s aroused by the breaking tfcie door of his room. A mob ot a score of men with, blackened faces forced their .way in, secured the jail keys, and, taking the negro a toila from town, hanged -bin to a- tree. St.
