May Get Hero Medal SATJLT STE. MARIE, Sept. 13— Walter J. Madigan, son of Mr. and Mrs. John A. Madigan, who gave his life In an effort to rescue a comrade, comrade, has been the subject of a thorough thorough Investigation during the last week by Robert C. Machesney, special special agent of the CarnegTe hero commission. commission. Madigan lost his life August August 21, 1933, In Pendill's Bay in the upper St. Mary's River near Dollar Settlement after having rescued Clayton W. Graham of Pickford. Both boys were In the Civilian Conservation Conservation Corps at Camp Raco, and were members of a swimming party. Madigan went into the yater when he heard the cries of Clayton, who had gone down twice. He rescued the drowning boy and started for shore. Almost making the grade, Madigan drowned as he was almost at his goal. Graham, rested after being towed in more than half way, made the shore safely.
