Aircraft accident in Dublin hills, 1927 - Alive, Buddy Modesto Champion Clings To*Hope...
Alive, Buddy Modesto Champion Clings To*Hope JHunstook To Join In wag S TILL clinging to shreds of hope, Clem Huntsook of Modesto continues to advance the belief that his "buddy," Eddie Neher, missing air mail pilot of Turlock, will be found--alive. Although more than 50 hours have elapsed since Neher has been heard from, during which time a dozen airplanes have swept the landscape in futile search; Huntstook clutches to belief--even in the face of almost unanimous opinion of officials of the Pacific Air Transport compiny that Neher has corne to a tragic end beneath the waters of San Francisco bay. Huntsook, who was an aircraft designer during the war, pointed out that signs ' of wreckage would be found floating if the ship had plunged into the bay. He said the gasoline and oil tanks have great buoyant powers, --as high as 500 pounds--which would serve * to keep the plane afloat. The wings, themselves, unless completely shattered, would also buoy the ship up, Huntsook believes. Huntsook inclines to the theory that the ship landed in the sparsely-settled hills in Dublin canyon." Because of the thick foliage at this time of the year and the fact that the plane is a dark grey color, it would not be Visible from a great height. The plane which Neher and Huntsook cor.s-.-ucted e-* _. months agu lays dismantled at Hunts'ook's sh6p.cn Tenth street. It was wrecked in a big wind storm recently. "If I could only get it toge again I would search for Eddie," he declared as he gazed at the dismantled parts. "I know a few places that haven't been searched thoroughly." Huntsook plans to fly over Dublin hills in another plane to search for his buddy. Loss
