Bookkeeper Testifies At Tax Trial INDIANAPOLIS (AP)-A Fort Wayne businessman's'bookkeeper testified Monday that her employer frequently made cash purchases of merchandise during the years he is accused of evading federal income taxes. The The businessman, Morley E. Wenbert, 52-year-old textile manufacturer, manufacturer, is on trial on charges of evading $56,696.10 on alleged unreported income of $105,085.70 for the years 1956 through 1958. ' Wenbert is accused -ofmakiiig "fictitious purchases and failing to report interest on 38 savings accounts." . The bookkeeper, Mrs. Frieda Fortriede, testified Wehbert some- times told her to list a certain supplier on a .check stub as having having received payment for merchandise merchandise although the check involved involved was made out to Wenbert. Under cross examination Mrs. Fortriede said cash ' purchases often were made payable to Wenbert, Wenbert, who would cash the checks to pay for the merchandise. Wenbert's income tax returns, showing no incbme from savings accounts, were introduced by the government. Federal Judge Cale J. Holder is hearing the case without a jury.
