Consider Jean Duffy, now Mrs. Don Nydegger of Phoenix, Ariz. Jean and her first husband, Martin Duffy, came to Page, Ariz., almost before there was a Page. Martin was an electrical subcontractor during construction of the giant Glen Canyon Dam. As the dam grew in might and height, the community community in permanence and the true lure of the desert caught their love, Jean was enlisted as a correspondent correspondent She was an amateur photographer. Writing she learned as she went. Her reports, pictorial and verbal, chronicled the dam's growth, completion and the growing Lake Powell. She and Martin loved the lafe too. Bought a boat, then another and explored as the impounded waters mounted. In May, 1964, the Jean n exploded. Only Martin was aboard. Jean immediately immediately telephoned The Tribune, reported the story. Only when the rewrite man taking her story was nearly finished did he realize the explosion's victim was Jean's husband His body was never found. Jean reported that, too.
