"When for fome' time, after hiking at Bedford, the Indiana appeared quiet, nor ftruck any other Part of our Frontiers, it became the prevailing Opinion, that our Forts, and tbe Communication, were fo peculiarly the Object of their Attention, that, till at leaft after Harveft, there was little Prcfpect .of Danger to our Inhabitants over the Hills ; and to diffent from this generally received Sentiment, was political Herefy, and attributed to Timi - the Point in the following Manner. - ' . ' " On Sunday Morning, the 10th Inftant, about Nine or Ten o'Clock, at the Houfe of one William White, on Juniata, between 30 and 40 Miles hence, there being in faid Houfe four Men, and a Lad, the Indians came rufhing upon them, and hot Whits at the Door, juft ftepping out to fee what the Noife meant. Our People then pulled in White, and fhut the Door ; bwt cbfetving, thro' a - Window,, the Indians fetting Fire to the Houfe, they attempted to 'force. their Way out. at the Doer; but the firft that ftepped out being fhot down, they drew him' in, and again fhut the Door: After which, one'attempting an Efcape out of a Window on the Loft, was fbet through the Head, and the Lad wounded in the Arm. The only one' now remaining (William Riddle) broke a Hole thro' the Roof cf the Houfe, and an Indian, who faw him looking out, alledging ' he was about t fire on him, withdrew, which afforded Riddle an Opportunity of miking his Efcape.
