Ingram, assisted by members of the faculty; vocal solo, selected, Miss Wilcox, JACOBSON GIBSON PERCIVAL TO CELEBRATE ELABORATELY Fourth of July Committee Makes Report on Features of Demonstration, The Fourth of July committee of the Merchants' Exchange is arranging for what 'may be' considered a *safe and sane celebration. Owing to the fact of recent elaborate parade in honor of the •parade will be arranged. exercises will be "Literary held, and Rev. Ernest E. Baker will deliver the oration. Other details of the literary exercises will be announced later. If sufficient funds can be secured, which now seems probable, bands will be stationed at the City Hall and possibly other locations. The program for the afternoon is' not yet completed, and will be announced later. The evening committee has arranged for a display or freowrks at Lake Merritt, which will equal, if not surpass, anything in that line ever seen in Oakland. If the finance committee is as successful as it hopes to be, an electrical illumination of the lake and vicinity will be installed, but this will depend entirely upon the liebrality of the public. The public buildings and streets of the city will be decorated with "Old Glory" in the usual manner. In view o.' present conditions, and the very recent elaborate reception given to the fleet, the committee feels very much encouraged at the liberal subscriptions which they are receiving. The committee feels that the city of Oakland cannot afford to disregard the national anniversary, and is sure that the pres ent celebration will be• a satisfactory one in all its details. Lilienthal, national organizer of the Juvenile Horticultural Society has sent a letter to Mayor Mott in which he says: "The daily press brings the welcome news that the city council has on your suggestion, created an advisory commission, of five, to the board of public works. Your move 18 in a good direction to the establishment of the board of park commissioners, 50 necessary for the management and welfare of the city parks and, play for which you deserve many (congratulations, and herewith accept mine. "Ladies, should be represented as they make Falways good officials and good committees, because . they are more thorough and more conscientious in their work than most of the men. Personally (for above reasons) I would not object to see ladies elected (not appointed) even if it were to the highest office in the land. Sister Josephine Called by Death After a long Illness Sister Mary Josephine of St. Joseph's Home for Deaf Mutes, died this morning. at the home, Fortieth, and Telegraph avenue. She had been a member of the Sisters of St. Joseph for many years and was beloved by all. The funeral will be held: tomorrow morning in the chapel, of the convent. Mass will take place at 9 o'clock.
