About

Evening Journal was a daily newspaper first published in Wilmington, Delaware on May 21, 1888 by Charles W. Edwards and Frederick Eden Bach. The two publishers later incorporated as the Evening Journal Publishing Company, with Bach as editor and Edwards as publisher. Housed in the Gawthorp Building at Fourth and Shipley Streets in Wilmington, the paper was Republican in nature while under Bach's leadership. Following his retirement, Edwards became editor and shifted Evening Journal to a Democratic perspective. When the newspaper came under the editorship of George B. Hynson following the sale of Edwards' interest, it reverted back to Republican control. Following Hynson's retirement, the newspaper was purchased by the Republican Printing and Publishing Company.
