About

The Durham Recorder (NC) is a succeeding title of The Hillsborough Recorder (NC), which was established in 1820. The Hillsborough Recorder retained the same owner and editor, Dennis Heartt (1783-1869), from its founding to its sale shortly before his death. John Donald Cameron (1820-1897) took over the role of editor and publisher for the Recorder in 1872, and moved the paper from Hillsborough to Durham, about 15 miles, in 1879.
