About

The Delaware Register, or Farmers', Manufacturers' and Mechanics' Advocate was first published in Wilmington, Delaware, on November 1, 1828. Published every Saturday by A. and H. Wilson, the newspaper cost $2 per year and stated on its masthead, "Our Public Journals as they ought to be- 'The Vehicles of Intelligence, not the common sewers of Scandal'." The first issue stated that the Delaware Register would contain a variety of original and selected articles. The editors noted that they would “present their patrons with an impartial and authentic record of the most important domestic and foreign occurrences” and that they did not intend to intervene in party politics but rather "to give our readers intelligence."
