About

On June 30, 1882, the Fort Worth Daily Gazette published its first issue. The rancher George B. Loving created the Gazette by combining the resources of the Fort Worth Democrat and the Texas Livestock Journal, and by renaming the Democat the Gazette. Published by Alfred Britton’s Stock Publishing Company, the Gazette inherited the editorial successes of the Democat, and from its ranks acquired two editors who would oversee the new paper, Buckley B. Paddock and Walter Malone. Today, the Gazette stands as one of the few sources of information on day-to-day events in early Fort Worth. The paper underwent numerous ownership changes until 1885 when the Democrat Publishing Company assumed ownership. The Gazette enjoyed praise from its peers and subscribers, but struggled financially until 1891, when its sister publication the Fort Worth Weekly Gazette was suspended. Thereafter, the Fort Worth Daily Gazette was succeeded by the Fort Worth Gazette.
