A Coy Angola railroad - Electric Railroad Matters. L.!t Wednesday...
Electric Railroad Matters. L.!t Wednesday evening Hon. John YV. llanan. ofLaGrange. and Engineer Swim hart, of the St. .loseph Valley Traction Company, met with the citizens of Angola in reference to the proposed extension of the line from LaGrange to Angola. Hon. S. A. Powers presided at the meeting, and Jtfessrs llanan and S winehart each assured the people that if a subscrip tion for stock to the amount of 15. 000 was obtained and a subsidy of s.T.000 voted the road would be built into Angola. The proposed line is to be a through trunk railroad, constructed so as to carry both passengers and freight. The committee that had been appointed to solicit subscriptions for stock announced that nearly yioooo had been secured. Stirring speeches were made byS. A. Powers. J. G.Yeag-ley, F. M. Powers. C. C. CarHn and a number of others in favor of the road, and at the close of the meeting many more subscribed. The committee kept hard at work all the balance of last week and yesterday were able to announce that the necessary sum had been subscribed. The list of subscribers given below represents many of the enterprising citizens of Angola, and the way they responded to the efforts of the committee speaks well for the stability and public spirit of our people. An election will be held as soon as the Board of County Commissioners can give the requisite notice, and it will then be for the citizens of Angola and Pleasant township to determine whether they will vote a subsidy of $35,000 for the road. It is apparent that the subsidy will carry by a large majority, and the way things are now-looking, work on the construction of the road will be commenced before the first day of next October.
