Add against Gus Voltz for City Judge in newspaper - The City Judgeship Race...
The City Judgeship Race """IIIIIIIIIIHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII llllllllllllllllllllllllllllin11" There is reproduced on the left-hand column on open letter directed by Mr. P. N. Luckett to Messrs. Gus A. Voltz and Lee J. Novo, . candidates for City Judge, which appeared in the Alexandria Daily O Town Talk of date December 30th, 1935. The campaign is almost at an end and neither of the candidates mentioned has declared his position in the critical situation confronting Louisiana. This is no time for a candidate for public office to seek support under misapprehension as to his political stand. The tragic situation confronting Louisiana is too crucial to permit the straddling of the issue of a continuation of Democratic Government. Open Letter to, Candidates Editor Town Talk: Following is open letter to Gus A. Voltz and Lee J. Novo: There are three candidates for city judge of Alexandria ward you two gentlemen and the present judge, Judge J. B. Nachman. Judge Nachman, in his opening announcement, declared himself in favor of the State ticket, headed by the Honorable Cleveland Dear. There are many rumors on the streets of Alexandria in regard to your position on the state campaign. I am sure that neither of you gentlemen desire to conceal your attitude at such a critical time as this, and will welcome this opportunity to state to the public your choice for governor. Will you please advise me as to whether you are supporting the Honorable Cleveland Dear or the Honorable Richard W. Leche for governor, and give a copy of your answer to the Town Talk or permit me to make it public. Awaiting your answer with interest, I am, Yours very truly, P. N. LUCKETT. Judge J. B. Nachman has openly, through the Alexandria Daily Town Talk, declared in favor of the platform of the Honorable Cleveland Dear, and is pledged to a return of Home Rule. Mr. Voltz and Mr. Novo, with the campaign practically ended, have declined and failed to take a public posftion in the press and the letter quoted remains unanswered. The administration, throughout its carppaign, has attacked by slander and falsehood all who have declared for the ideals of Democratic Government. The present political crisis demands the election Df men to public office who are fearless, open and above board in political thought and action. Just another example of their propaganda Is the accusation published in the "American Progress," the official machine paper, thct Judge Nachman is one of the "Dear Personnel Committee" and is on the WPA payroll at $200.00. This is a deliberate and malicious lie, wholly unfounded in fact and spread by the Maestri-Allen-Leche tragic regime. Judge Nachman has never received one cent from the WPA nor any other Federal Agency, nor have any of his family connections done so. Judge Nachman's record of Justice and Impartiality, regardless of position or political affiliation, is well known to the Voters of Alexandria Ward. Re-elect a tried and proven public servant. Re-elect a man of even temperament as a Judge, fearless as a private citizen and of established ability. VOTE FOR J. B. NACHMAN FOR CITY JUDGE Paid for by Friend of Judge Nachman
