Clipped From Harrisburg Telegraph
APPOINTMENT of Shorty Miller to the City Controller Job, made vacant through the death of the late Bill Denehey, comes as a welcome surprise to his many thousands of friends in and about Harrisburg. If the powers that be, or rather, they who appoint, were looking around for a candidate who would satisfy all (except the disappointed ones) they could have made no better choice. Honest, sincere, a friend at all times, one capable of holding down the position with dignity and business acumen. Gene is the answer to what the citliens of Harrisburg want. On all sides, since the announcement was made, the writer has heard nothing but words of praise for the new appointee, and our best wishes for a successful term are added to those of all the 'Others who nave been lauding him. To the "three sopranos" as Shorty calls his family, and especially to the mother, nee Ruth Richards, whom we've known since high school days, we might say "Stand up and cheer Pop's gettuV there."
