Fresno. Water Table Influence Editor of The Bee--Sir: It seems to me the watermasters are having quite an argument regarding the underground water table. One thing is certain. You cannot run water up hill. According to my judgment, most ran by of .the water around Fresno comes from the Kings River. Why? Because it is higher. Furthermore, there is a certain i f I underground water stream, at* strata which you can trace for 20 miles into the foothills. These stratas are from 27 feet to 33 feet apart. They run from northeast to southwest and most of the water comes east of the Friant Dam. Of course since Friant Dam. has been built we are apt to get more water from the dam because the water used to seep into the river. Now the water pressure is pushing it back into those stratas and down into the vallev. There is another factor--the irrigation ditches. They help to.keep the water table up some. Every Spring after water is in the ditches the water table comes up three to four feet. Of course if the water table should drop below 50 feet we might some water from Friant. GEORGE D. OLIWIEN.
