82ND BIRTHDAY— Mrs. Sally Brown Pierce who celebrated her 82nd birthday Tuesday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Vern E. Carter in Provo. A granddaughter-in-law, Mrs. Melvin Hutchings, made the birthday cake. Mrs. Pierce Has Party On 82nd Birthday Anniversary Mrs. Sally Brown Pierce celebrated her 82nd birthday Tuesday evening at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Vern E. Carter in Provo. A delicious dinner was served to members of the immediate family. Later Mends and relatives called to pay their respects. A beautiful birthday cake was made -for her by a granddaughter-in-law, Mrs. Melvin Hutchings. Moving pictures were taken, and moving pictures were shown of a grandson, Darwin Virgil Carter, who is with the armed forces in Fairbanks, Alaska by Mrs. Helen Carter Bolton. Mrs. Pierce was born Oct. 8. 1875, to John Wyles and Jane Izzard Brown. The family lived in Charleston, Wasatch County, for a number of years. Mr. Brown owned and drove the stage coach between Provo and Park City. He later operated a livery stable in Provo. Mrs. Pierce loved to ride'horses as a girl. Mr. Brown was also a school teacher. Mrs. Brown came from England with her parents at the age of one. Mrs. Pierce was married on New Years Day, 1896, in Provo to Terry Eben Pierce. He died Nov. 23, 1923. They had five children: Raymond Eben Pierce, El- Monte, Calif.; Mrs! Jess E. Hutchings (Ethel), and Mrs. Verh E. Carter (Maude), Provo; Mrs. Pearl Haslip, Pear Blossom, Calif.. and Mrs. Orlin Stubbs (Norma), Edgemont. - • She also has 29 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren. Mr. Pierce was a farmer and fruit grower in Pleasant View. Mrs. Pierce' is an expert seamstress, and still makes clothes for her grandchildren. She has also made many fine quilts.
