Jim Baker, Leroy Baker Track 29 April 1941
Kant Lists Competitors In Sonic Events for His Local Trackmen The squad which will carry tin colors of St. Joseph’s Catholic high school into the May schedule of U, P. track and field competition is gradually being I lined up in the mind of Coach ! Carl Kant. Kant, watchlnu his charges step through some of their paces yesterday, said Jim Baker and John Goloback likely will shoulder most of the responsibilities of the hurdles. Jim Baker, Leroy B;iker, IMdhausen and Knauf arc ticketed for the 100-yard dash, while both Bakers are to beat- broad jump and relay loads. Goloback and L. Baker are tagged for high jumping competition. Georgie Koster and Lester atid Clinton Marenger are 220-yard dash candidates. Small Squad Kant has a small squad and few of its members are experienced, so he is entertaining no great hopes for this season. However, his five-man team in th< U. P. finals at Houghton last year barely mis8ed bringing home the Class C bacon and this may he another St. Joe year. If Joe Young, veteran trackman and a senior, were to report, said Kan*, the parochials would be in a position to kick the dopo bucket around.
