West border a n said Hie 45 in recent down Reconstructing the incident preceding the shooting police say :hey are investigating reports :hal WliiUaker and Jack Benham, address unknown, were involved in a fight back of the tavern shortly after midnight, in which Whittaker reported was badly beaten. Beeman and Cannon are alleged to have "ogged" Benham on during the fight. Whittaker left after the fight, jut in about an hour returned with the shotgun. According to police, Whittaker fired at close range at Beeman and Cannon, who were seated at a table. Police slate that both barrels )f the shotgun were discharged. Beeman was struck in the back and died while he was being taken to St. John's Hospital in the city emergency ambulance. The other shot struck Cannon, billiard arfor owner, who was seated at lie table with Beeman. The shot shattered Cannon's left hand. He., was taken to SI. John's Hospital and amputation of the hand may be necessary. DONALD E. BEEMAN Acting Deputy Coroner Tom Scfton investigated the fata shooting. Officers participating in the inquiry were Capt.
