B. into near up were Canberra BRITISH TORPEDO BOATS IN ACTION -Craft Reported ing- Clash in Dark scheduled LONDON, Aug. 13. £--British motor torpedo boats fought a series of actions with larger enemy surface craft during the darkness of early today, the admiralty announced tonight. The British boats, speeding at 30 knots, sighted two small enemy ships 100 yards away. One of the British craft immediately rammed one of the enemy, while another British boat engaged the other with machine guns and grenades at what was described as "'almost point-blank range." The admiralty said the British attack "took considerable effect, while the enemy's return fire was ineffective." ' A third British motor torpedo boat sighted two larger enemy ships and machmegunned them at "very close range'' it continued. Later another British motor torpedo boat fought two running battles with an enemy "£'' boat, (small torpedo boat).
