Burkeen recently observed their 50th wedding anniversary at their home, 109 North Bailey. Mr. and Mrs. Burkeen were married at Brushy Bottom community, near Marquez in Leon County. "We telephoned the justice of the peace in Marquez and told him to meet us for a wedding In Brushy Bottom," Mrs. Burkeen recalled. "It got so wet around Brushy Bottom that our buggy just wouldn't make it to Marquez. We were married near a bridge,' she said. A daughter, Mrs. Ozell Hosl, of Waco, was unable to attend the surprise dinner held for Mr. and Mrs. Burkeen in observance of their golden wedding anniversary. Their other children and families were present, including Lee Burkeen of Mexia; Mrs. L. C. Brem of Crane; Henry Burkeen of Culver City, Calif; Boyd Burkeen of Houston; and Loyd Burkeen of Farrar.
