On Mother's Day (it says here) it is customary to give mothers i holt day from work. ;,'·· ' To many mothers, however, Mother's Day is probably' the most strenuous day of the year. It all begins early in the'morning--about the time she is usually up before anyone else preparing breakfast. But today, as the custom goes, she must stay in bed. Pretending to sleep,'she listens with justified uneasiness to an assortment :'nt strange. noises, clangs and bangs coming from the kitchen she' had spick and span the night before. From time to time she hears muffled voices conjecturing on the locations of various articles such as eggs, salt, bacon, cereals, milk, etc. A resounding crash brings her thoughts to her new riiixTng howl. Finally, unable to stand it longer, longer, mom slips into her clothes, runs a comb through her hair, and enters a kitchen" filled with chaos which she begins to put in order over the protests of her confused, but relieved, family. And so it goes the rest of the day. Chances are one of the big- jest meals of the year is whipped up by'.mother--on her day off.
