Autopsy Shows Trauma Caused Woman's Death Intercranial hemorrhaging which an autopsy showed resulted resulted in* the death of a La Crosse woman Saturday was caused by a “trauma” — a wound delivered delivered by an external blow — to the left side of her face, according according to a La Crosse pathologist. But the pathologist, Dr. Paul C. Dietz, said in his report to coroner Robert Holmquist that he “cannot say” whether the blow was caused by a human hand or by a fall against some object. Dietz also said the victim,! Mrs. Marcella Bye, 50, of 2010 S. 21st Terrace, had cancer of every every organ including the heart, lung, brain and bone marrow. His report, completed Wednesday afternoon, was to be given Thursday afternoon at an inquest into the cause of Mrs. Bye’s death. Mrs. Bye’s husband, Leland.i 50, when questioned by La Crosse police Saturday, said! that he had struck his wife ] twice following an argument I Friday night. She then went to! bed, was heard snoring between I 6 and 8 a.m. Saturday, and was j found dead about 9 a.m., he! said. Asst. Dist. Atty. Michael Mulroy Mulroy said Thursday morning that the inquest would determine whether Bye’s actions were “of a criminal nature.” In a charge read shortly after the inquest opened Thursday afternoon, jurors were told they were to determine when Mrs. Bye died, in what matter, by what means and, if by unlawful means, who was responsible. Holmquist had ruled that the death was a homicide last Saturday. Saturday.
