Policeman Spruil 1892 Arkansas City KS
To Fight Iledeklna, Last evening Marshal Crowley and Policman Spruil met on Summit street at Fifth avenue. They stopped and were engaged in conversation. While they were talking a small man with a fierce moustache, slouch hat, pants held up with a belt and a revolver attached thereto came up. Seeing the gun Marshal Crowley says "What are you doing with that on?" The youth said something about wearing it for protection. His reply showed that hs was a tenderfoot and of teutonic extraction. His talk was somewhat broken. He said he was from Indiana and had come west and was going among the Indians. When asked if he usually wore arms he replied that he did not but he needed protection as he was going among the Indians. When asked if he thought he would have to fight he replied: "Sure." Finally Marshal Crowley dispelled the youth s mind of Indian fighting by arresting him. He paid $5 and costs in police court this morning.
