6 Adult Scout Volunteers Recognized Six adult Scout leaders were singled out for special recognition during the past r as the Coconino District of the Grand Canyon Council ol Boy Scouts resumed its tradition ot annual dinner meetings Salurdav night. The district is one of seven in the council ' and serves boys in the Flagstaff, Grand 1 C a n y o n , W i l l i a m s a n d P a r k s communities. The "Awards of Merit." were presented at Ihi? conclusion of a dinner program ntich also saw the recognition of a amber ol unit leaders. Lavelle McCoy, district f i n a n c e committee chairman, who made the presentations compared the awards with (be Silver Beaver and Silver Fawn awards, which are the highest level awards available at the council level. N o r m a l l y only t w o a w a r d s a r e permissible a n n u a l l y , although the recipient list was expanded because no awards have been presented lor two vears. Commissioner training awards were given to: Kent Garner, Ed Uodson, Don Houchin, Blaine Steele, Fred Rohrman and J.T. Landry. Special awards to unit leaders for special efforts went to : Jan Nolcine, Pack 35: Vivian Otero, Pack 35; Tom Morse, Pack 37: Connie Morse. Pack 27; Lamar Haines. Troop 37: Layton, Troop 27; Don Neff. Troop 35; Ken Harkey, Troop 134; Donald Houchin, Troop 39; Velan Call, Troop 128: and Ken Lee, Troop 137. Troop 39 was singled out for its work at last year's Coconino County Fair. Pack 34, Sponsored by Flagstaff Kiwanis Club, and Pack 35. sponsored by Marshall School P T A , r e c e i v e d c e r t i f i c a t e s f o r Anniversary Month window displays. The Arizona Daily SUN and KOA1-TV received awards lor special help this past vear and the J.C. Penney Co. was cited for s e r v i n g a s o f f i c i a headquarters. Recognition also was given district winners of the Silver Beaver and Silver Fawn awards this past year and lor district scouts who achieved the Eagle Scout rank. Eagle Scouts, recognized earlier, were: Kenneth Harkey, John Harkey, Fritz Batson, Phillip D. Staires, Ted M. Willis, Scott A. Willis, Mark Frost, Mike Paul Thurber, Ted Hardy, Stewart Nelson, Steve Walter, Paul Boothe, David W. Clary, James E. Cook, Robert L. Cook, Mark L. Julien, Todd Brown, Paul T. Johnson, Alan Dowell, Pete Mickelson, William Atkin, Matt Smith, Jack Maize, Terry L. Robinson, Frank DeMiguel, M. Allen Wright, Steve Spackeen, Jeff Baker and Troy Lane. It was noted less than 2 per cent of scouts in the national generally achieve the Eagle rank. Given a repeat recognition for earning Silver Beaver awards from the district were Robert K. Bursley, Franklin M. Hodge, Haines and Dr. Arthur L. Mansure. Mansure. Hazel Wren was cited for her Fawn award. Recognition also was paid Steven T. Spackeen and Patrick Hogan, who won Medals of Merit during the
