Gcfcie G. Whitmire, 64 Years Old la, dian, Had Lived In Indian \er. ritory Entire Life Gettie G. Whitmire was born ini Going Snake district, Indian Territory, January 4, 1871. He died on April 17, 1935 at the age of 64 years, 3 months, and 13 days. Mr. Whitmire was educated in the public schools of the Cherokee Nation and at the Cherokee National Male Seminary near Tahlequah. He was married to Miss Lydia Walkingstick in September, 1899. To Mtfs union was born four children, three boys and one girl, of whom two boys Vance and Haskell, and the daughter, Mrs. Golda Webb, survive; and w*re present at the funeral. The wife and one child preceeded him in death by several years. He was a kind husband and father, an honest citizen and a good neighbor. He was very public spirited, always trying to further the cause of education in the community and had served on«the school board of district 34 for a number of years before his death. ' ( • The funeral was conducted by Rev. I; M. Phillips of Westville and a Cherokee preacher, Rev. Wm. Wolf, an old friend of the deceased. The funeral was attended by the largest crowd that ihts gathered at the Whitmire cemetery in many years., Mr. Whitmire leaves one sister, Mrs. Margaret Grider of Muskogee r.nd one brother, Mr. E. H. Whitmire of Addielee, both of whom attended the funeral; and a host of other nelatives and friends, to mourn his departure.
