At the August election 42 Sam'l Purviance was j elected and qualified as commissioner from the second district to serve for a term of three years ending in 1815. f His succepsor was duly elected and qualified In 1845 j and served until 1848. The succession iof the office and the terms thereof was continuous continuous and uninterupted, in periods periods of three years . each, until the year 1866, when John Brubaker, at the fall election of said year, was elected and qualified as commissioner commissioner to serve for the term of three years, commencing in' 1866 and ending In 1869, but before ; the fall election of 1869, at which the successor of Bruebaker would have been elected the ' legislature passed an act which provided tbat general elections held annually should thereafter be held bi-en-nlally, bi-en-nlally, bi-en-nlally, bi-en-nlally, bi-en-nlally, on the second Tuesday of October, and said act further j provided provided that the first election - under its provisions should be held on the second Tuesday of October, 1870, and every two years thereafter.
