in Jake Lankhorst Dies at Age 42 At Hospital Here Jacob B. Lankhorst. 42, prominent prominent Hawarden business man, died at the hospital here Sunday morning. Hawarden stores and offices were closed between ? and 3 o' clock yesterday afternoon during the funeral services which were held at the Associated church. Rev. T. A. Mansen of Hawarden Hawarden and Rev. Clarence Hanscom of Ottumwa, former pastor here, officiated. Burial was in Grace Hill cemetery. The Barnard Funeral Funeral home had charge of the services. services. Mr. Lankhorst was a member and an elder of the Associated church, was active in the choir and as a Sunday school teacher and helped organize the Youth Fellowship. He was a member of the Odd Fellows lodge. At one time he was active in the Junior Chamber of Commerce and later in the Chamber of Commerce. The son of Harry J. and Eva Lankhorst, he was born at Monroe, Monroe, S. D., September 21, 1909. He moved to Hawarden at the age of 12 in 1921 with his parents parents who opened a meat market which later became Lankhorst Market. the present Mr. Lankhorst graduated from Hawarden high school and attended attended Coe college at Cedar Rapids Rapids and the University of Chicago. He married Edythe Rlecke of Iowa City June 25, 1940. A daughter, Karyn Elaine, was born about two years ago. Survivors include the widow and daughter; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Lankhorst, sr.; two brothers, Harry and John, and one sister, Geraldine. All tire of Hawarden.
