Gophers Fear Tough Game Against Indiana MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Gophers, their backfield strength depleted by injuries to veterans, flew to Bloomington, Ind., today in hope of taking their first victory of the 1958 season. Minnesota has racked up heavy yardage gains in its first five games of the season, but never was able to click at the crucial moment. Indiana finds itself with a golden golden chance to gain its first Big Ten victory since 1956. Dickens has been saying for weeks his team is planning for Saturday's homecoming battle against the Gophers. Expected to steer tht Hoosier aerial attack is quarterback Tom Kendrick, a star in last week's victory over Miami of Ohio. Indiana has a strong, tough first line but not much in the way of replacements. Its backfield is speedier than Minnesota's and a good deal more experienced in the light of recent Gopher injuries. Minnesota will start a backfield of quarterback Jot Salem, halfbacks halfbacks Bill Kauth and Gary Melchert Melchert and fullback Roger Hagberg. Hagberg. Among absentees from the Gopher Gopher traveling squad are Bob Soltis, Soltis, Jim Reese, Bill Chorske and Arlie Bomstad, the only Gopher backs with 1957 experience.
