Clipped From Del Rio News Herald
Here Wednesday at All-Star Wrestling will return to Del Rio on Wednesday at the 4-H Club Show Bam. The president of the Wrestlethon Inc., Frank Brown, has managed to bring back the same card that was scheduled for Aug. 5 but was cancelled because of Hurricane Celia. Brown said he has returned with the same card so that people who were counting on seeing any wrestler or match scheduled on the cancelled card will not be disappointed. The main event will set Mil Mascaras against the Great Malenko. Mascaras, man of 1,000 masks, will definitely be the crowd favorite in this match. Mascaras gained popularity with the De! Rio fans on his debut before the Del Rio fans by defeating the rugged Johnny Valentine in a best two out of three falls match. Mascaras had very little problems defeating Valentine and the crowd will probably be behind Mascaras as he takes on the Russian, Great Malenko. Malenko has stated, "He'd better bring, all of the 1,000 masks he has." Malenko, of the team of Malenko, Orton and Montague has been handed many disqualifications due to the Illegal tactics employed by him and his companions. Del Rio wrestling fans witnessed one of these in the first card seen in Del Rio on July 22. Big Bob Orton was disqualified for hitting the referee sharply on the back and then blaming it on his opponent, in this case Joe Blanchard. Don't be surprised to see Sir Charles Montague at ringside during the match between Malenko and Mil Mascaras, doing his best to interfere and cause Mascaras to get edgy. This match should be a grudge match on the part of Mascaras due to the injury that he received during an exercise demonstration in which Mascaras was participating. This match should be one of. the most exciting to be seen in Del Rio or anywhere. The semi-final match will pit Sir Charles Montague against Ron Etchison. Montague, as Malenko, is in the ring to win. You can count on seeing Malenko at righside when Montague takes the ring. Etchison, on the other hand, is more of the scientific- wrestler but is able to mend his type of wrestling to match his opponent. The supporting match will find San Antonio's Ben Matta against Kentucky Colonel Stu Gibson. Matta, in the last card took a match from Mark Starr. Colonel Stu Gibson is a retired Air Force colonel, ( who studied boxing in the Air Force because there was no wrestling available. Don't be surprised to see a few well-taught punches in the match between Matta and Gibson. The third man in the ring for all matches will be Dave Cantu. There will be a seating arrangement change in the card set for Wednesday. Brown announced that he will be here on Tuesday to help with the arrangements. The starting time for the first event will be 8:30 p.m. Tickets will go on sale at the 4-H Club Show Barn at 3 p.m. on the day of the matches. to in DOVE SEASON OPENS SEPT. 1!
