is as ALBERT FRANTZ For the Brutal Murder of His Sweetheart, Bessie Little, Last August, DAYTON, O., Dec. U.— The tria of Albert J. Frantz for the murder of Bessie Little, his sweetheart, was commenced to-day and bids fair to last a week. The body j of Bessie Little was found in the Stillwater river on September 2, 1896, by E. I Harper, jr., of Cincinnati, who was bathing. The remains were badly decomposed, and it was though that the girl had committed suicide and so the body was buried. Chief of Police Farrell, bfowever was not satisfied, so the body was exhumed, the head removed, and in the skull were found two bullets Circumstantial evidence shows that Frantz took the girl out riding and that they drove to the' Stillwater bridge. Frantz's defense will prob ably be that the girl committed sui cide. As far as known no one wit nessed the crime. SHE SHOT HERSELF. Of course, the principal defense will be that Bessie Little shot her self and that Frantz then threw her body into the river, and it is this that makes the case appear difficult for the prosecution. The fact that he went at once to his home and confessed to members of his family that the girl shot herself while in his company, and that he then threw the body into the river, and that he and his relatives then consulted Judge Kreitzer as to the extent of his culpability, will be presented as evidence that his crime was not premeditated, premeditated, and that he was not guilty of the murder. When court adjourned this evening evening the second venire had been exhausted, exhausted, and Judge Brown ordered a third to be in readiness at the opening opening of court in the morning. Of the two venires of fifty-one names already already exhausted nine jurors remain in the jury box. a
