Coverage of the genesis of the short-lived "League of the Unemployed" organized by members of Local Portland, Socialist Party of America. A mass meeting took place Jan. 21, 1921 in downtown Portland, addressed by Socialist Party of Oregon orators Tom Lewis and Ed Lewis. When asked how many in the great crowd were unemployed "nearly 1000 men raised their hands in response." An 8 person committee was formed and a march of the unemployed planned for Jan. 29, 1912.
