9 Bus Passengers Hurt The Turner High School bus which slid into an oak tree beside Duggan Road three miles north of Beloit Monday morning contained 31 passengers, the sheriff's department reported. Nine of them suffered some injury but only four were taken from the scene to the Beloit Hospital for treatment. Roger C. Whitney, 37, Rte. 3, Beloit, driver of the bus, told officers he was traveling about 20 or 25 miles an hour in 4 to 5 inches of snow when the truck skidded toward the ditch. He swung the wheel sharply to keep the bus from overturning in the ditch, and it struck the tree. The students injured when they were thrown from their seats were: Linda Curtis, 14, shock, head bump and skinned knees; Patricia Ridgeway, 15, same injuries; Jeanne Danz, 16, ankle injury; Mikel Mahoney, 16, head bump. All are from Rte. 3, Beloit. Carol Swain, 17, was taken to the hospital by her parents later when she complained of neck and shoulder pain. Injured slightly but continuing on to school were Jeanne Rein, 16, Faye Buchholz, 13, Linda Bakke, 15, and Sherry McHone, 15, all of Rte. 3, Beloit.
