Conscripted as Pvt. Co D 16th NC Infantry. He was captured on Cemetery Ridge 3 Jul 1863 during Pickett's Charge at Battle of Gettysburg. He was a graduate of medical school in Charleston, SC. After parole from Ft. Delaware Prison early 1864 he tended to Union soldiers at Union Refreshment Saloon Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. His death listed as due to Typhoid Fever.
